Rare and Site-specific Creation Art of Pinot Noir Scores 5 Stars at Platter`s

In the recently launched 2018 Platter’s South African Wine Guide only four Pinot Noir wines boast the coveted five-star rating – among them the rare, site-specific Creation Art of Pinot Noir 2016. The grapes for this limited-release wine were selected from a small pocket within a single vineyard block, planted on 450-million-year-old clay loam soils with decomposed Bokkeveld shale. “The wine was 30% whole-bunch fermented to capture the freshness of the cool-climate grapes and then only a limited barrel selection was bottled under the Art of Pinot Noir label,” explains Creation co-owner and marketing director, Carolyn Martin.

Commenting on the Art of Creation wine portfolio Carolyn remarks: “Fine winemaking is an art in itself and to celebrate this fact the range was launched in 2013. Since then both the Art of Chardonnay and the Art of Pinot Noir have performed exceptionally well, locally and abroad, with among the latest accolades this prestigious Platter five-star rating for the 2016 Art of Pinot Noir.”

Carolyn describes the wine as follows: “Shiny, deep pomegranate-seed red with a robust bouquet of rose petal, dark cherry, pimento and anise. The complex palate shows opulent layers of cherry and plum mingling with earthy flavours of mushroom and an elegant sprinkling of spice.”

The Walker Bay region where Creation is situated has long been famous for its Pinot Noir. The estate’s specific setting on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge combines close proximity to the cold Atlantic Ocean with an altitude of some 290 metres above sea level to offer cool conditions, ideal for the slow ripening of Pinot Noir. While the Creation Art of Pinot Noir can be described as the ‘Pinnacle of Pinot’, the estate also boasts an enviable track record for its Estate and Reserve Pinot Noir. The 2015 Reserve Pinot was recently top of the Winemag.co.za Pinot Noir Report and scored 94+ in a vertical tasting done by Greg Sherwood MW. Additional praise has come from the renowned British author and wine columnist, Jamie Goode. He scored the 2015 Creation Reserve Pinot Noir 92 and the 2015 Creation Art of Pinot Noir an even more impressive 95. The authoritative Tim Atkin MW also gave the 2015 Creation Art of Pinot Noir a 95-point rating.

“The five-star rating in the highly regarded Platter’s South African Wine Guide further bolsters Creation’s reputation for quality Pinot Noir and we are delighted with this significant accolade,” says Carolyn.
