Roger Federer donned a tuxedo to head to the Oscars in Los Angeles and marked the occasion with a shot of tequila.

The 34-year-old, who has recently announced his return to the practice court after successful knee surgery, took to the red carpet in Beverly Hills to soak up the atmosphere at Hollywood’s star night.

In video footage Federer joins Guillermo, who’s from the American programme the Jimmy Kimmel show, to have a quick drink before heading into the prestigious ceremony.

‘I’m a champion like you…’ joked Guillermo, before having 17-time Grand Slam winner Federer in raptures of laughter by claiming his prowess was in drinking rather than tennis.

Ever the good sport, Federer gulped his shot of tequila and quipped, ‘I’ll get back to No 1 with shots like that!’

As a dedicated athlete the Swiss maestro won’t regularly sample the delights of alcohol. ‘That was a strong one,’ said Federer after composing himself.
