Royal wine creates 1000 jobs

King Cyprian, the father of the reigning Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini, has a wine named after him.

The wine, Zulurula, will be produced by the Paarl based winery known as “Bayede”– the same company that produced the Bayede wine currently on sale and consumed mainly during royal events in KwaZulu-Natal.

The news has left the Zulu monarch very happy.

The King said he was pleased that his father has now been honoured, like his mother Jezangani, who had a statue erected in her memory in Cato Manor, Durban.

“My mother was honoured some time ago. Now it’s my father’s turn and I am glad it came just months after I honoured my mother”, said the King on Saturday at Ngwavuma, adding that the sweetest part of the honour was knowing that jobs would be created through the wine-making initiative.

Zwelithini addressed guests at the annual marula ceremony in Ngwavuma in northern KZN.

Over 1000 jobs have been created to produce the royal wine, that has already found itself on wine racks in China and the US. During the function on Saturday, the provincial department of agriculture handed over a cheque for R2mn to pay women employed to supply the factory with the marula fruit they collect.
