Raising a wine is a lot like raising a child. Growing up, my mom was adamant that whatever she did for one sibling she’d do for the other, so as to always be fair. But she also knew that our personalities were different and thus adapted her fairness accordingly.
Bouchard Finlayson is renowned for raising charming, well-groomed, wholesome specimens that are fantastic company – everything a parent could wish for their young one to become.
Their 2014 son is no exception. He exudes the classic Bouchard Finlayson Galpin Peak charm although, as a result of environmental influences in the form of unusually high rainfall during his upbringing, his personality differs slightly to that of his siblings. Instead of trying to squeeze him into the mould his older brothers assumed, they gave him the opportunity to let his unique personality, and softer side, shine.
The result is the quietly confident 2014 Walker Bay Pinot Noir. A handsome and pleasant wine that makes for wonderful company at the dinner table.
