In this popular series we feature selected sommeliers from top restaurants around the world. Each chooses his or her favourite Creation wine, tells us why and recommends a matching dish. This week we welcome Marlvin Gwese (head sommelier) and Brian Mahlangu (assistant sommelier) from the Cape Grace Hotel in Cape Town.

Brian says: 

A few years ago I embarked on an excursion to the renowned Hemel-en-Aarde. After numerous wine tastings at numerous wine farms in the valley, I stopped at Creation and was met by Carolyn Martin. She took me through the wines and JC Martin, the winemaker, also expanded my knowledge – with alacrity. I felt very important that day! The beautiful ambience, the superb service and the team’s expertise are still fresh in my memory.

The Creation Viognier is a seductively well-textured wine with abundant fruit, accompanied by crisp, fresh acidity leading to a zesty aftertaste. The palate is rich and creamy with hints of white peach, cumquat and apricot. The wine is full of character just like the couple who made it!
