South Africa’s largest SELF-portrait exhibition opens at Glen Carlou

One of South Africa’s largest self-portrait exhibitions titled “SELF” has opened at Gallery @ Glen Carlou.

‘SELF’ is a group exhibition of 70 artists from around the country who are exhibiting in the Gallery @ Glen Carlou in various mediums from sculpture, installations, paintings, drawings and etchings.

The impressive 480m² commercial gallery space is part of the Glen Carlou winery in the Simonsberg Paarl area. The gallery is open seven days a week from 9am till 5pm. SELF can be viewed until 22nd September.

In conjunction with the launch of the new exhibition, three incredible works from Michael Amery, Carin Dorrington and Olivié Keck are featured in an online silent auction running until Sunday 4th August 17h00 SAST, on the Glen Carlou website. To view the pieces and place your bid #seeforyourself at https://glencarlou.co.za/gallery

Curated by in-house Curator, Pierre Le Riche, this large-scale exhibition is one of the first of its kind. “The brief to the artists was pretty simple, I asked them to present a work, old or new, that represents themselves and their artistic practice. There were no limitations to what they could present, and I encouraged them to work as honestly and truthfully as possible (regardless of trends etc)”, said Pierre.

Some of the artists participating in the exhibition include: Oliver Scarlin, Eben Venter, Claudette Schreuders, Deon Mass, Antoni Schonken, Michael Amery, Ledelle Moe and Matthew Hindley.

The comprehensive catalogue will be available on the Glen Carlou website on Friday 2 August 2019.
