Spotlight on Viognier

Although little known in South Africa, Viognier is a cultivar which is becoming increasingly popular and production has escalated over recent years. Creation was the first farm in the Hemel-en-Aarde to plant this grape, which is believed to be an ancient variety first brought to central and Western Europe from Croatia in Roman times. Genetically it is a cousin of Nebbiolo and closely related to the lesser known Piedmont grape, Freisa.

The Joshua Tree

Creation Wines is proud to be associated with The Joshua Tree – a non-profit organisation and a member of Lishtol Community Projects based in Bredasdorp in the Overberg focussing on job creation and skills training amongst the underprivileged in the community. Founded by Simon and Emily Wichall, The Joshua Tree has grown from humble beginnings: a vision that started as one unemployed member of the local community who had never done carpentry before working from a single garage has resulted in 18 skilled carpenters and 14 fulltime members of staff. As a skills centre they believe in giving back to the community and take a holistic approach to each member of the team and their families.  All their products are made from reclaimed French oak wine barrels with which they create a range of upcycled quality furniture and household items. The Joshua Tree also accepts custom design commissions.

The `we build` initiative

Creation is proud to be associated with ‘We Build’, a community project to construct fireproof dwellings in the fire prone townships. This admirable project is the brainchild of Anthea van der Pluym who, through suffering severe burns of her own, was moved to embark on a journey towards safer, more secure homes for those who currently reside in informal dwellings.
