You can thank the sugar in grapes for the alcohol in your wine. During the fermentation process, sugars are broken down and converted by yeasts into alcohol. Generally the later you harvest the grapes the more sugar you will get in the grapes and eventually this will reflect in the wine as well. To give you an idea of the sugar in wine we compared a variety of vino with other household food products.
