“TASTE” Dinners at Mint

Mint Restaurant at Taj Cape Town in St George’s Mall is offering an exciting new dinning experience on the first Friday of every month. Great wine, delicious food and lively music make for a winning combination with a new menu that focus on casual dishes that tempts the senses and taste buds.

In conjunction with their regular menu, the “TASTE” dinners, prepared by Chef Lyle Abrahams and his team, consist out of a stellar  3-course Grill menu, paired with organic and biodynamic wines to match the food. Upon arrival, guests have the opportunity to taste through the selection of wines on offer and then decide which of the wines they would like to enjoy with their dinner.

Last month, Tatiana Marcetteau, the food and beverage manager at Taj Cape Town, invited us to experience the “TASTE” dinner and we started the evening with an informal tasting. The organic wines on offer included a Sauvignon Blanc from Bartinney, the Cyclus White Blend from Avondale, a organic Shiraz Rose and Shiraz from Waverley Hills, Boekenhoutskloof Wolftrap Red, and Boplaas Muscadel.

After tasting through the wines our friendly waitress escorted us to our table and a short while later she returned with some freshly baked bread and the wines we selected to enjoy with our first course.

We slowly worked our way through some of the exciting new items on Mint’s menu which include a decadently creamy Jerusalem artichoke soup, a deconstructed Caprese salad with mozzarella ‘string’ cheese, tomato chips, basil jelly and rocket, spicy calamari polpetti with lemon pepper dressing, beef spare ribs in a sweet and sticky vanilla and sesame sauce, and a extremely tasty gnocchi in a three cheese sauce.

For dessert we enjoyed a citrus Assiette which coonsisted out of a rich creamy Orange parfait with strips of candied peel, carbonated lemon sorbet on a mango pure and a lime cloud in a tiny cup.

The 3 course menu, paired with 3 wines is priced at R295 and you will not leave hungry. The portions are generous and the presentation flawless!
