The $1000 Ice Cream Sundae

New York City is known for lots of things. There’s the Empire State Building and Lady Liberty. Then there’s the fantastic pizza and a variety of trendy restaurants like Serendipity 3 situated on the Upper East Side of Manhattan where all things sweet and delicious reside.

So naturally, when the crown prince of Dubai visited NYC over the weekend, he just had to go indulge. When you’re a crown prince, though, you don’t just order a scoop of chocolate with hot fudge and a cherry on top. You order the most expensive thing on the menu: Serendipity’s $1,000 Golden Opulence Sundae.

It comes in a $300 Baccarat goblet and includes the following ingredients:

  • Five scoops of vanilla ice cream including vanilla beans from Tahiti
  • Chocolate syrup made of melted Amedei Porcelana, the world’s most expensive chocolates
  • Gold covered almonds
  • Candied fruits
  • Chocolate truffles
  • Marzipan cherries
  • 23-carat gold leaf and smaller gold flakes
  • Sugar paste floral decorations

Pretty expensive ingredients! It gets even better, though. When diners like the crown prince of Dubai are done with their sundae, the restaurant hands them the $300 Baccarat goblet in a red velvet-lined box to take home as a souvenir.
