The Artist meets the Sidecar

‘The Artist’ walked away with 5 Oscars at the 84th Academy Awards on Sunday night, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Original Score and Best Costume Design.

To celebrate the film’s victory we bring you the Sidecar. The age of silent cinema was also the heyday of classic cocktails and this classic tale of love, loss, and future greatness requires a cocktail that delivers dignity and entertainment in spades. The Sidecar is sweet, with rich warmth and complexity thanks to the base of Cognac and fresh lemon and orange liqueur bringing in just enough tartness to evoke a more innocent time – before actors could speak and let us know what’s really going through their heads.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Ounce Cognac
  • 3/4 Ounce orange liqueur (preferably Cointreau or other high quality liqueur)
  • 3/4 Ounce fresh lemon juice

Preparation

Shake all the ingredients in a shaker full of ice until well-chilled and then strain into a cocktail glass rimmed with lemon juice and sugar. Then raise a glass on high in a silent toast to the love of Peppy and Valentin.
