The Best Cocktails To Make With Tonic Water

Gin is probably the first thing that springs to mind when it comes to tonic water but it’s not the only way to use this bar staple.

Here are some awesome cocktails to make, using tonic water as a key ingredient.

Port-tonic

If you are not sure what to do with that age-old white Muscadel or Port, just pour 2 shots in a glass, add some ice and top it off with tonic.

Rum & Tonic

This refreshing cocktail, zingy with plenty of lime juice and tonic, will convert any rum sceptic. Dark rum works best and lime juice can be adjusted to taste.

One thing to remember: you can never add to much basil to this drink. Also, be sure to muddle the basil instead of just breaking it.

Ingredients

  • 25ml Gin
  • A generous handful of fresh basil
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 200ml tonic water

Instructions

  1. In a mortar and pestle, roughly smash a few sprigs of basil.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the basil, the lemon juice and the gin. Shake to combine and infuse the gin.
  3. Pour into a tumbler filled with ice and top up with tonic water.
