The Best Drinks To Sip On During A TV Series Binge

If you are not up for a night out on town and prefer to rather crawl up on the couch for a proper binge, there are plenty of shows that will make you feel like you’re at a party.

We rounded up the best modern TV shows for binge-watching and the drink that will make your cocktails and night in front of the television just perfect.

Mad Men

The drink: Old Fashioned

Mad Men is single-handedly responsible for a thousand throwback bars inspired by the suave attire, hard-living and very hard-drinking of Don Draper and the Sterling Cooper team. If any drink sums up the show, it would be an Old Fashioned. In season 3 Draper puts an ice cube in a glass, over which he drips angostura bitters. He then shakes together rye whiskey (the club was out of bourbon) and soda water. He then pours it over the bitters-soaked ice cube, before serving with a lemon wedge. A standard Old Fashioned also includes a teaspoon of sugar, though Draper seems to do without.

Gilmore Girls

The drink: Espresso Martini

Rory and Lorelai Gilmore like coffee. In the pilot, Lorelai drinks 11 cups over two days, and in a later episode she famously says, “I need coffee in an IV”. So when you’re getting ready to rewatch the series you can either risk going into a diabetic coma and try a Rory Martini, the toxically pink beverage invented by her grandmother for her 21st birthday.

Sex and the City

The drink: Cosmopolitan

Apart from telling us all we need to know about dating, friendship, and designer footwear, Sex in the City also presented us with the Cosmopolitan. The first time the Cosmo shows up in the show is in the second episode of season two during a group dinner in honour of Carrie’s birthday. Later in the same season, the cocktail makes another appearance when the gang attends the wedding of Miranda’s interior decorator. “Another Cosmopolitan, please,” Samantha says to the bartender, upset that she accidentally fucked the same guy she’d already hooked up with years before.

Absolutely Fabulous

The drink: Stoli-Bolli

The AbFab cocktail came from an episode of Absolutely Fabulous, in which Patsy and Edina kind of make it up on the fly. It’s extremely simple – just vodka-spiked champagne, really. But coming from the minds of Patsy and Edina, it’s all about the brands, of course. You have to use Bollinger champagne with Stolichnaya vodka.

30 Rock

The drink: White wine

Tina Fey not only given us probably the best show to ever grace our television screens, so also gave us the funky juice. Mix up some funky juice with white wine, Sprite and ice cubes, and store it in a thermos by your toilet. Don’t ask questions.
