Whisky fans visiting Scotland are often spoiled for choice when it comes to distilleries and bars but what about places to stay?

Scotland is home to over 120 whisky distilleries with more being announced every year.

A whisky fan’s dream, there are hundreds of places to not only see one of the world’s favourite spirits being made but also places to try the finished product under the watchful eye of an expert.

However, it isn’t just bars and distilleries where you can get close to the action, Scotland has its fair share of some incredible whisky hotels too, here are some of the best.

Ballygrant Inn, Islay

Located as it is, on Islay, the island that has come to be defined by its highly sought after whisky, the Ballygrant Inn is the first port of call for many whisky fans making a pilgrimage there.

Not only does the family-run hotel, bar and restaurant generously offer to help guests book their tours of nearby distilleries but they also have over 900 different whiskies from Islay and the rest of Scotland (as well as further afield) of their own to sample in their top-notch whisky bar.

The Ardshiel Hotel, Campbeltown

Built back in 1877 when the Campbeltown region itself was a whisky mecca, the Ardshiel Hotel is a family run whisky haven that’s the ideal place to stay when visiting this beautiful area.

Located within walking distance of the town centre and all three of the towns working distilleries Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia, its award-winning bar is filled with over 700 malts and the food is incredible too.
