The Dog’s Bollocks In Cape Town Named As One Of The Top 50 Burger Joints In The World

Big 7 Travel has released its list of the 50 Best Burgers in the World and The Dog’s Bollocks at The Yard in Cape Town, South Africa, has claimed the 34th spot!

From Australia to Argentina, the food critics at the travel publication rounded up the best burgers in the world for 2022, using a ranking system that considers editorial experience, critic reviews, customer feedback, location and accessibility, presentation, value for money and atmosphere.

Sporting some old-time favourites, the list also includes dozens of newbies worth raving about and the Dog’s Bollocks is one of them.

Placing the Dog’s Bollocks 34th on the list of 50 Best Burgers in the world, the publication had the following to say about the hidden gem of the Mother City:

34. Dog’s Bollocks — Cape Town, South Africa

These burgers are heavy. Seriously, come hungry. The burgers are wider than average, piled high with a delicious combo of the patty, greenery, tomatoes, and more. Most people opt for one of the beef burgers, made with 200g medium beef, but the chicken is popular too. No need to leave your vegetarian pals at home either, the “Vag” burgers are a real crowd pleaser, made with a hand-crafted vag patty and topped with everything from vegan cheese to Mozambican prego sauce.

The longest-running pop-up in the world

The Dog’s Bollocks at the YARD became Cape Town’s first pop-up restaurant in 2011 when owner Nigel Wood sold his first 30 burgers to locals living in the area on a first come, first served basis. What started out as a one-man show in a side alley on 6 Roodehek street, just off Buitenkant, the Dog’s Bollocks soon became the talk of the town. Vegans became meat eaters and for the sake of Greenpeace, Nigel was forced to turn his pop-up into a vibey back alley eatery, offering the BEST munchable meals for stoned citizens and anyone who loves eating messy meals layered with goodness.

Now open 7 days a week, the Dog’s Bollocks is a Cape Town institution that shares the YARD with Mucky Mary’s, the Bitches Tits and Pizza Warehouse, serving soul food unlike any to die-hard fans and passerbyers.

If you haven’t been, you haven’t lived. That’s a fact!
