The surprising way Tequila can give you perfect skin

True story: Tequila once served the much-needed purpose of a hair defrizzer when we desperately needed one. And now, if you’re feeling saucy, you can use tequila as an astringent, too.

“The alcohol content in tequila explains its astringent abilities,” says Joshua Zeichner, the director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. “It helps remove excess dirt and oil from the skin, much like the astringents you can buy at the drug store.”

Even better: Leah Crump, an aesthetician and the spa director at Ocean Pearl Spa in San Diego, developed a recipe for a DIY body scrub that uses tequila as an astringent, along with moisturizing coconut and almond oils. “The tequila acts as an exfoliator in this scrub,” says Zeichner. “Coconut and almond oils act as soothing and hydrating ingredients.” Cosmetic chemist Ron Robinson of beautystat.com says this scrub should be used once or twice a month for optimal sloughing off of dead skin cells. And we like how Crump added rose to give the scrub a nice calming scent. Here’s the recipe.
