This 97-year-old Woman Is Still Working The Grape Harvest

Wine making is arduous manual labor, and picking grapes during the harvest season is one of the most physically demanding parts of the process. It sounds like a young person’s game, but 97-year-old Ann Hawkins is still going at it.

The resident of Pattingham, U.K. has been picking grapes at Halfpenny Green Vineyards for twenty years, and shows no signs of slowing down, according to the Express and Star.

“It feels no different than any other birthday to reach this age,” Hawkins told Express and Star. “I still enjoy life, I’m still walking.”

Hawkins celebrated her 97th birthday by participating in the harvest with a large contingent of volunteer grape pickers. Afterwards, she commemorated the end of the harvest by sipping on a glass of Black Country Gold, her go-to white wine produced at Halfpenny Green Vineyards. She’s one of many volunteer grape pickers, and she may be the most enthusiastic. Not only is she the oldest grape picker in the group, she’s been doing it longer than anyone else. And Hawkins doesn’t plan on quitting any time soon.
