Tim Atkin awards 2018 The Glen Carlou Collection Chenin Blanc 95 points in South Africa Report

Award-winning British journalist and Master of Wine (MW) Tim Atkin has awarded the 2018 The Glen Carlou Collection Chenin Blanc 95 points, the second vintage sourced from 50-year-old bush vines in the Swartland.

In what Atkin described as his “white wine of the day, when compiling his report, it is grown under dryland conditions and available in limited quantities. Formerly part of The Curator’s Collection, it has been rebranded as the new The Glen Carlou Collection and is due for release at the end of the year.
“As a small batch wine, production from this vineyard will always remain limited to around 3000 bottles” says winemaker Johnnie Calitz. Tim Atkin’s tasting note states, “Even better than the maiden release, this remarkable Chenin comes from a single grower in the Swartland. It’s an intense, heady, wonderfully scented white with ginger and white pepper scents, pithy acidity and stony acidity.”
Atkin tasted almost 2000 wines over two visits to the Cape Winelands in his seventh annual wine guide to South Africa.
This wine will only be available in South Africa from the winery and our online shop.
