Tintswalo Atlantic – A place where heaven meets earth

Want to see what heaven on earth looks like? Drop everything, pack your bags and drive towards Hout Bay. Just before the Chapman’s Peak pay station, the gates to heaven awaits!

Tintswalo Atlantic is nestled in the heart of the wondrous Table Mountain National Park, fronting the finest stretch of the majestic Atlantic Ocean. Completely hidden from view, and draped by nature, the hotel sits low, right on the coastline, against a backdrop of rocky outcrops, rugged cliffs, shrubs, lush bush, fynbos and wild flowers.

Prepare to park your car at the secure parking area, located at the top by the entrance gate. The road down to paradise is quite the roller-coaster, with sharp corners and limited road-space. Upon arrival the friendly security staff at the gate will contact reception, who will send a vehicle to collect you and your luggage.

After check-in, guests are welcomed with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, before being escorted to their suite. There are only 10 island suites, and a two-bedroom presidential suite, each looking out onto the Atlantic ocean, Sentinel Mountain and the bay.

The suites are all named after small islands around the globe, which has special meaning to the Corbett family, who own the Tintswalo Group. During our visit we stayed in one of the Caribbean-inspired suites, called the Cousine Island Suite. The more than spacious room offers a king-size bed and lounge area, which flows into the spacious bathroom with a walk in shower and bath big enough for two, all overlooking the ocean. No need to worry about the neighbours seeing you in your birthday suit, as all the suites are completely private from eyes-view.

After admiring the luxurious interior of our Cousine Island suite and the magnificent view, we enjoyed a refreshing dip and a bottle of wine at the heated salt water pool, situated a short walk from the suites, and built on a wooden deck, right on the rocks. Life couldn’t get much better as we soaked up the sun while admiring the beauty of the Cape. Or so we thought…

Little did we know that the sunset would by far exceed any of the mental and physical pictures we’ve taken over the years.

The overload of ecstasy we experienced since our arrival earlier that afternoon, did not overshadow our dining experience. In fact, it was some of the best food I’ve tasted this side of the year. The good news is that you don’t have to be a guest of the hotel to enjoy a lunch or dinnerĀ on oceans edge. Just make a reservation and inform the chef of any specific dietary requirements, as the menu changes on a daily bases.

The wine list includes some real South African gems and is by no means boring or overpriced. The location, along with the magnificent, and relatively affordable food, make Tintswalo Atlantic one of the most idyllic places in the Western Cape to celebrate a special occasion over lunch or dinner.

Looking back on my previous 5 star beach resort experiences, I can honestly say that you really can’t get much closer to the sea than this place! Never in my life have I fallen asleep with the ocean breaking right on my patio deck, only to wake up to the same glorious view the next morning.
