Tread Lightly wins BWI Best Value White Wine at the Nedbank Green Wine Awards

Backsberg’s eco-friendly wine wins best in category at the Nedbank Green Wine Awards 2013.

During a great summer luncheon hosted by the Nedbank Green Wine Awards, Backsberg was delighted to take home the prize for the BWI Best Value White Wine award for its Tread Lightly Chenin Blanc 2012.

This wine expresses wonderful aromas of pear, green apple and cashew on the nose while flavours of crisp lemon give the wine a balanced acidity with a lingering finish.

The wine forms part of the Tread Lightly by Backsberg range and is packaged in PET bottles, reducing the bottle weight dramatically and thereby resulting in a much lower carbon footprint. The bottle is also fully recyclable.

Backsberg is one of the few wineries in South Africa to boast WWF Biodiversity and Wine Initiative (BWI) champion status and is the first wine farm in South Africa to be carbon neutral. Backsberg focuses on making an impact on lowering their carbon emissions through changing farming practices, wine production and distribution.
