Treat Yourself To Afternoon Tea With A View At Leeu Estates In Franschhoek

Set against the backdrop of the spectacular Franschhoek Mountains, Leeu Estates introduced their new Afternoon Tea menu in September 2017 to reflect the importance of art at the luxurious country retreat.

The tea menu derives its inspiration from Leeu Collection’s Head pastry chef, Martin Senekal, who has extensive experience in various kitchens, including collaborations with Design Indaba, Hugo Boss and Cape Town Fashion Week.

Weather permitting, you can have tea out on the terrace overlooking the gorgeous gardens; otherwise, it is served in the art-filled Dining Room.

Our traditional high tea began with a perfect selection of finger sandwiches that were so deliciously moreish, we promptly asked for more before hoovering up the buttermilk and apricot scones with homemade jam and clotted cream.

The terrific finger sandwiches and scones are certainly traditional, but the outstanding cakes and pastries are nothing of the sort. Beautiful, tweezer-precise sweet treats adorned the top tier of the 3-tiered cake stand, including bonbons, macarons, verrines, religieuse, strawberry gateau, mille fueille and chocolate gateau.

This experience would not be complete without the Leeu Collection 8-strong tea collection. If you’re looking for a side-serving of class with your afternoon tea, opt for a glass of bubbly. This jaw-dropping place certainly deserves the extra indulgence of sparkling wine in the afternoon.

The Leeu Estates Afternoon tea costs R190 per person and includes a pot of tea. It’s served from 2pm-5pm every day of the week.
