Trio of Springtime favourites from the Peter Falke Cellar

Peter Falke Wines, the exclusive boutique winery situated in the heart of Stellenbosch’s winelands, has released the highly-anticipated new vintages of its PF Sauvignon Blanc, PF Blanc de Noir and PF Pinot Noir – just in time for spring!

The exclusive winery of Peter Falke is nestled against the majestic slopes of the Helderberg mountains and is a proud member of the Stellenbosch Wine Route in South Africa.

Dating back to the 18th century, the traditional gabled Cape Dutch buildings of the wine estate belie a contrasting modernity within. The stately old homestead is partnered by a boutique winery, contemporary wine tasting room and luxurious outdoor lounge. Groenvlei Farm, on which the winery is situated, is home to rambling magenta bougainvillea, delicate scented roses and wild lavender growing alongside carefully cultivated vineyards.

This setting provides the ideal opportunity for enjoying a glass of one of Peter Falke’s newly-released springtime favourites in the warm evening air, whilst savouring both the views and one of the estate’s mouthwatering cheese platters.

Beautifully blush in the delicate colour of spring, the PF Blanc de Noir 2014 was produced from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The juice was immediately drained after a light pressing, to prevent excessive colour extraction.

The nose tempts with aromas of cotton candy, caramel and red fruits, and the palate pleases with strawberry and rhubarb. Well rounded with a creamy fullness, this wine is superb on its own or enjoyed with sushi, mild curries and berry pavlova.

The PF Sauvignon Blanc 2014 has spent 2-3 months on the fine lees, enhancing its complexity and structure. Vibrant and fresh, the nose boasts nuances of pineapple and passion fruit, with hints of guava. The tropical palate is full bodied and rich, with a lingering finish. Serve well chilled with crayfish and cucumber dill salad, or with fresh bread and goat’s milk cheese.

Complex and elegant, the PF Pinot Noir 2013 takes pride of place at any springtime table. Gentle handling in the cellar ensured a soft tannin structure, after which the wine spent 14 months in French oak barrels. Aromas of peppery spices and earthy notes delight the sense, with subtle cherry and raspberry flavours on the palate. Serve slightly chilled at 14-15 ̊C and pair with grilled salmon or tuna, or rare roast beef with a pepper crust.

Visit Peter Falke Wines to try these new releases – the estate is open from 11h00 until 19h00, Tuesday to Sunday.
