Truth Coffee Rolls Out High Tea and Champagne Offerings

The high tea concept may be a British invention, but there’s no shortage of it in Cape Town’s finest restaurants, hotels and coffee houses.

Truth Coffee in Buitenkant street has recently joined the list and resident Patissier Kamal Hamzaoui is turning afternoon tea on its head by whipping up bite-sized sweet and savoury pastries for the coffee shop’s high tea, which elevates routine to art form.

Get ready for a relaxing afternoon filled with exquisite petit fours and Pol Roger Champagne. It’s very possible that you will be stuffed, as the three-tiered platter gets replenished immediately when empty. Tea fare includes:

Amuse Bouche – a citrus-flavoured spread of lemon meringue, orange blossom and grapefruit petit fours, salmon and cream cheese canapés, and choux with mango and goat’s cheese.

Café Course –  perfectly baked scones with homemade jam and clotted cream, choux profiteroles, and a chocolate-and-passion fruit tarte.

Le Grande Révélation – prosciutto and a cut of French Camembert and blue cheese, accompanied by freshly toasted croissant slices.

Remember to save some space for dessert.  The white chocolate dome filled with champagne mousse and decorated with gold leaf is off the charts!

Those who prefer savoury treats to sweets, there’s a kudu carpaccio canapé, as well as a similar vegetarian option.

Truth is a discerning coffee drinker’s playground, so of cause, coffee is not excluded. A comprehensive tasting chart will help you choose from numerous beans and blends, while the baristas on board are more than capable of telling you just about anything you may want to know about coffee.

Any meal at this steampunk-themed Cape Town coffee shop is as much about soaking in the atmosphere as it is about the actual food, so be sure to spend a couple of hours cocooned inside one of the restaurant’s leather booths while you sip on one of the world’s finest Champagnes.

Truth Coffee offers three different afternoon tea services:

  • a classic high tea (non-alcohol) priced at R360 p/p,
  • the Pol Roger champagne high tea, which includes a glass of champagne for R480,
  • the Winston Churchill Champagne High Tea, which is a fantastic gourmet experience that costs R990 p/p and includes a glass of Pol Roger Winston Churchill 2004.
