Vineyard Hotel’s Festival of Bubbles

The Vineyard Hotel’s annual MCC Festival will again take place on Sunday, 2 March 2014, with some of the Cape region’s best Methode Cap Classique (MCC) producers showcasing their wares for local bubbles enthusiasts.

The popular festival, a hallmark event marking the Vineyard Hotel as the Cape’s premier wine destination hotel, will take place outdoors in the hotel’s lush gardens between 3pm and 6pm.

Now in its 5th year, this year’s festival will include the MCC offering of four new local wine estates, namely Ambeloui, De Grendal, De Wetshof and Muratie. Estates from previous years who will again be in attendance include Boschendal, Domaine de Dieux, Sterhuis, Saronsberg, Villiera, Simonsig , Graham Beck, Klein Constantia, Mooiplaas, Silverthorn, House of Krone and Plaisir de Merle. Accompanying the tastings will be delicious canapés prepared by the hotel’s expert chefs while guests sit back, enjoy the summer gardens along with some light entertainment.

The MCC Festival celebrates the sparkling wine production method known as Cap Classique which has been in South Africa since 1992. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are three of the grape varieties that must be used to produce Méthode Cap Classique vintages. Wines made from these grape varieties are subjected to the so-called “méthode champenoise”, which involves a second fermentation inside the bottle. It is agreed by many experts that sparkling wines made in the South Africa MCC tradition are of the same quality of those made in the admired Champagne region of France.

The cost to attend is R180 per person, which includes a souvenir Vineyard Hotel tasting glass. As this annual event is enormously popular, bookings are essential.  Guests are encouraged to book early and full pre-payment is required to guarantee bookings.
