Vriesenhof Vineyards 2018 Harvest Update

Winemaker, Nicky Claasens, provides wine lovers with a update on the upcoming 2018 harvest at Vriesenhof.

“The new year had started slow, with the adverse weather conditions, the harvest will be later than the previous three years. As things stand, the harvest will start two weeks later than last year for us at Vriesenhof. While that might seem like a blessing, it does become a bit strenuous as all the prep work in the cellar had been done. The tanks are empty and clean, sorting tables at their stations and ready to go. This year the harvest will be more of a challenge due to the weather conditions. The late rains in November and December had been fortuitous, allowing for a beautiful crop to form. Unfortunately the lack of water or rain during January had caused the grapes to ripen very unevenly, with small berries. So for now it would appear that a good crop will unfortunately yield a small volume. Let’s hope it will be beautiful”.
