Watermelon is as hydrating as a glass of water

Don’t get this wrong — the best way to stay hydrated is to drink plain water or another beverage that has electrolytes. But if you’ve had your fill of water and still feel dehydrated, certain types of food could do the trick.

One food, in particular, is especially hydrating: watermelon. The fruit is made up of 92 percent water and 6 percent sugar.

To equal a glass, or 16 ounces by volume, of water, you’d have to consume a little over that volume of watermelon. If you ate 17.6 ounces by volume of watermelon, you’d have consumed an entire glass of water.

Watermelon is good for more than just staying hydrated. It has other nutrients such as fiber and vitamin A. Eating more watermelon is good for your skin, too, helping it to stay hydrated and nourished.
