Renowned for its eco-friendly practices and premium certified organic wines, Waverley Hills came out tops in the organic category at this year’s Getaway Green Wine Awards.

The Getaway Green Wine Awards competition is formed of three categories which recognise firstly the best organic producers, then those who follow the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) guidelines and lastly the Leadership in Conservation category. This year a total of 105 wines entered, 55 organic wines and 50 in the IPW category.

The Waverley Hills Grenache 2016 swooped up not only the Best Red Wine but also the Overall Winner award in the organic producer category.

Single varietal Grenache wines are harder to find and this organic Grenache boast flavours of red apples and watermelon. The palate is fresh and long lasting with smooth yet ‘grippy’ tannins. It is sure to be a hit this festive season as it’s a perfect summer red wine and pairs well a braai, mezze platter or with seafood dishes like paella, crayfish or tuna. Available from the cellar at R100 per bottle.

Waverley Hills Viognier Semillon Chardonnay 2015 received the Bloggers Choice Award. This unique blend has beautiful aromatic notes, a fynbos freshness rounded off with tropical fruit flavours and nutty oak aromas. Available from the cellar at R85 per bottle.
