A South African winery has launched the world’s first Sulphite-free white wine, made using Honeybush and Rooibos chips.

 

WHILE the economic crisis in Europe and the US may seem like a long way away, it’s a very real challenge in the Western Cape where many fruit, vegetable and wine growers are having to manage the negative effects of weak demand for exports.

 

The grande dame of premier South African wine estates, Vergelegen in Somerset West, is undergoing a facelift.

For the most part of the first decade of the second millennium, the wine industry in South Africa experienced a significant swing towards red wine production – moving from 18% of planting in 1996 to 44% in 2008.
