Wellington Wine Harvest Festival 2014: back with a triple bang

The Wellington Wine Harvest Festival, an initiative of the Mutual & Federal Agri Wellington Wine Route, is back for the 7th round and promises an unforgettable day in the heart of the Cape Winelands on 15 March 2014.

Save the date and come enjoy Wellington’s award-winning wines and local food offerings at the three designated entertainment venues – Diemersfontein, Bosman Family Vineyards and Welbedacht Wine Estate.

New Fashioned Boere Bazaar at Diemersfontein will feature plenty traditional South African entertainment such as suikerkaskenadesboerekos and the Kaapse Boeremusiek Gilde.  The famous Kaapse Affodille, Polkadraai Boere-Orkes and Danie Willemse will provide non-stop foot-tapping music on the day.

The food on offer will be paired with the various wines from participating wine farms such as Alkmaar Wines, Douglas Green, Jacques Smit Wyne and Hildenbrand and promises to be “typically” South African, from sticky riblets, beef on spit braai and bobotie, to a variety of irresistible curries.

Guests at Top Chilling located at Bosman Family Vineyards can expect a laid-back long lunch with relaxing vibes in a family orientated and kids-friendly atmosphere.  There will be food and wine tables with ample seating under tents and gazebos where local restaurants and wine cellars will offer the best of local produce.

This venue will provide an opportunity to chill and relax while listening to the slow beat of ambient live music by evergreen local muso Newton.

Other participating farms are Doolhof, Nabygelegen, Dunstone, Val Du Charron, De Compagnie, Andreas,  Douglas Green, Napier Winery, and Jorgensen Distillery.

Wilder as die Wildtuin (#WilderAsDieWildtuin) at Welbedacht will embrace all animals – in or out the bottle, mechanical or live – all to the rocking rhythm of a big name band which will bring out the animal in you.  Have a laugh or two with some comedians or shake hands with the Stormers’ rugby players.

For the hungry there will be a wild boar spit braai, exotic South American picnic hampers, a specialized wine cocktail bar and the personalised whisky theatre (11:00/15:00 booking essential) in the Barrel Cellar presented by Andy Watts, the Master Distiller of James Sedgwick Distillery. But you can also, enjoy Linton Park Craft Beer, the funky vibes of Vida-e-Caffé ,  and the brand new No 6 restaurant will have lips smacking and jaws moving.

Wine hampers will also be up for grabs in support of the Rhino Charity.

Other participating wine farms and venues are Bontebok Ridge, Limietrivier Alpaca farm, Douglas Green, Wellington Wines, Jacaranda and Malan de Versailles.
