What Is Spumante?

When you think about Sparkling Wine from countries like Italy, Spain and France, you think of Prosecco, Cava and Champagne, but there are more Sparkling Wines to explore in these countries, rather than just from these regions, for this article I am going to focus on Spumante from Italy.

Spumante is a classification of Italian Sparkling Wine, Spumante can be produced in any area of Italy with any grape variety, it also has two different production methods, including both the Classic Champenoise Method and the Charmat Method.

Spumante is an Italian word which translates into English as Sparkling Wine.

Basically, by putting Spumante on your bottle of Italian Sparkling Wine it means that your Wine is Sparkling, to put Spumante on your bottle, you don’t need to have grown it in a certain region, with certain grapes or even used a certain fermentation method, as long as it’s grown and produced in Italy, you can put it on your label, even bottles of Prosecco can put Spumante on their labels.
