When it rains, it pours!

Although Creation Wines was lucky to escape the terrible damage that hit so many other parts of the Overberg this past weekend, due to the damaged road access the property was closed off on Sunday morning – much to our (and our guests’) dismay.

For the first time in six years the Tasting Room at Creation was forced to close and although every effort was made to alert those guests who had booked, there were still a few brave souls who arrived at our door later on in the day when the road had re-opened. The only catch was that we were not informed that access had been restored! Thank you Carolyn, Phillip, Madelein and Monique for racing up to the farm on such short notice to offer those Creation fans who had made the trek a taste of our unfailing hospitality. Our apologies for any inconvenience experienced due to this unforeseeable event.

A marriage made in heaven
On a lighter and far more summery note, kreef (West Coast rock lobster) season 2014 opened on the 15th of November and once again heralds the arrival of a truly South African tradition. Nothing says summer holidays by the seaside like a crayfish braai and we believe there is no better accompaniment than a glass of Creation Chardonnay. Viticulturist, winemaker and cellarmaster JC Martin has confirmed that the 2013 vintage has been the best thus far. It rewards with glorious layers of sun-kissed pear and peach enhanced by fresh minerality and a hint of vanilla. The full-bodied palate is in perfect harmony: generously fruity and subtly spicy, with well-judged acidity contributing excellent balance.

Creation chef Warwick Taylor has prepared the perfect dish to complement our 2013 Chardonnay: a butter poached crayfish with almond and sweet corn. [CLICK HERE FOR THE RECIPE]

Remember, crayfish is a protected marine species and there are very specific regulations that must be adhered to when fishing for kreef.

The West Coast Rock Lobster Season opens on 15 Nov to 17 Nov, closes from 18 Nov till 13 Dec, re-opens on 14 Dec till 1 Jan 2014, closes again from 2 Jan until 17 April and then opens for the public holidays between 18 and 21 April 2014.

This represents 26 open days in all.
