Background:  Not often does one find four brothers who are all separately involved in the production of wine like the Schultz brothers. Rudi (winemaker) and Werner  (viticulturist) are with Thelema Mountain Vineyards, Gunter is the winemaker at Kleinood Farm (House of Tamboerskloof Wines) and Carl who has been  Cellarmaster at Hartenberg Estate for the past 22 years.  At each of their respective farms they produce a range of both white and red wines, but the commonality between the brothers is their passion for Shiraz. Carl at Hartenberg produces 5 different Shirazes ranging from his Ultra-Premium Gravel Hill Shiraz to the more accessible Doorkeeper Shiraz. The mainstay of the five Shiraz’s, is the original Estate Shiraz, which is made from selected Shiraz vineyards on the estate.  The current vintage is the 2012 which was aged for 18 months in 50% new and 2nd fill French oak barrels and prior to its release remained in the underground maturation cellar at Hartenberg for a further two years.

Result: The colour is an imposing dark velvet red with aromas of savoury spice and plums. The palate is rich, smooth and almost voluptuous with succulent cranberry, ripe plum fruit which gracefully tails off with a hint of vanilla.
