Wine Review: Boland Cellar Cappupino Ccinotage 2015

All hail to the clever person who, through experimentation, discovered that Pinotage and good quality high toasted oak, create this wonderful ‘coffee’ scented and flavoured wine, packed with red and black berries.

Many people have been introduced to wine, or introduced to red wine, by this magnificently monikered Boland Cellar Cappupino CCinotage 2015.  Did someone press the wrong buttons when this wine was named, no, just an amusing verbal blend of cappuccino and Pinotage.

A wine like this needs special attention in the cellar. Obviously the Pinotage must be ideally ripe and stuffed with berry flavours to make a dry yet very berry wine. Often the  vines are unirrigated bush vines which have small grapes with a high skin to juice ratio.  Then the toasted oak used must be soft and enticing and there as support to the fruit and not overpower it. Everything in balance and harmony.
