Wine Review: Waverley Hills Grenache 2015

The Grenache 2015 from Tulbagh organic wine producer Waverley Hills makes for great everyday drinking. From bush vines yielding three tons a hectare, maturation lasted nine months in third-fill 500-litre barrels.

The nose shows red cherries, floral perfume and spice while the palate is medium bodied with very fresh (some might say “spiky”) acidity. Not super-intense in terms of aroma or flavour but true to the emerging style we are seeing locally. And at R100 a bottle from the cellar, it won’t break the bank.

#WinemagRating: 87/100.
