Woolworths Launches 4 Premium Boxed Wines In South Africa

Woolworths has launched a range of premium South African wines in boxes. What has been described as “papsak” now comes in a premium range selling from R124.99 to R189.99.

The premium brands are Kleine Zalze Chenin Blanc, Pierre Jourdan Tranquille Blush, Beyerskloof Pinotage, and Diemersdal Sauvignon Blanc.

The new range of boxes come in 2L slim boxes that easily sits in the fridge door, and the pricing is very reasonable and structured – effectively the consumer gets 500ml wine free.

For years citizens of the republic have frowned on wine that comes in a box. Perhaps the time has finally come for South Africans to embrace a trend that been around in first world countries for many years. Because of bag-in-box packaging being an environmentally-friendly alternative to glass, the global wine-drinking community is backing this premium concept.

Woolworths is not the first company to launch premium boxed wines in South Africa. A popular box wine brand among millennials at the moment is the Ben Wren Wine Co. Sourced from respected South African wine cellars, the brand was created with the consumer in mind. Ben Wren was one of the first in the country to disrupt the wine market this way.
