Word on the street. Cape Town`s favourite vegan restaurant closed its doors

The news filtered through social media today that Cape Town’s popular vegan restaurant, Plant, has closed its doors for good.

Named by the UK’s Evening Standard as one of the best Vegan restaurants in the world only a couple of months ago, the announcement came as a shock to all herbivores across town. Plant made also our list as one of the best places to knock down a ginger shot in town. Oh well, so much for a healthier munch.

The Official Responds

Dear Cape Town,

It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the closure of Plant.
Plant has been my passion and an avenue for education about plant based eating and we have shared many magical moments together.

Ultimately, running a restaurant while juggling a full time job has become too much.

My commitment to spreading the message of compassion, education and speaking up for those that can not speak for themselves still stands.

I am going to take some much needed time to regroup, re-energise and then identify a different avenue where we can utilize our experience to make this world a better place.

Thank you for your support and the many fun times we shared at Plant!

Our amazing staff will be looking for work. Please let me know of any openings at restaurants or other opportunities.

“I hate endings. Just detest them. Beginnings are definitely the most exciting, middles are perplexing and endings are a disaster. … The temptation towards resolution, towards wrapping up the package, seems to me a terrible trap. Why not be more honest with the moment? The most authentic endings are the ones which are already revolving towards another beginning. That’s genius.” -Sam Shepard
