World Cocktail Day: Anyone Can Make A Day Of It, With Or Without Alcohol

We’ve been in lockdown for so long we’ve forgotten what a good cocktail tastes like. And what’s more, we’re running out of spirits at home! So, what’s the alternative?

On the 13th of May annually we observe World Cocktail Day – a global celebration of cocktails and those who serve them. Correct, if you’ve ever served a mixed drink from your bar cart that’s you. But with spirit supplies running low, how on earth will you celebrate? With Angostura aromatic bitters.

Low-AVB (alcohol by volume) and non-alcoholic cocktails have become quite trendy over the past few years and there are now more options than ever before. They’ve become a verified staple on bar menus around the world and they taste just as delicious as the real thing. Have you run out of spirits, but you still have that bottle of Angostura aromatic bitters on the shelf?

Jug this:

Angostura Rock Shandy

Build half soda water and half lemonade over ice in a jug, add 13 – 20 dashes of Angostura aromatic bitters on top, stir, and garnish with lemon or lime wedges.

Lemon Lime Bitters

Add 20 – 26 dashes of Angostura aromatic bitters to your jug, then add ice. Pour in 97ml freshly squeezed lemon juice, 70ml lime cordial and 70ml sugar syrup*. Top up with lemonade, squeeze fresh lemon wedges into the drink before adding them to your jug as garnish.

In a saucepan combine equal parts sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool.

Steelworks

Fill a jug three-quarter way with ice and add soda water to the level of the ice. To this add 97ml cola tonic and top up with ginger beer. Then add 13 dashes of Angostura aromatic bitters, stir, garnish with a lemon wheel and serve.

They’re so quick and easy that you have no excuse for missing out this World Cocktail Day!
