World’s best whiskies at Wellington wine harvest

Don’t miss out on tasting the proudly South African and internationally award-wining whiskies produced in Wellington, at the exclusive whisky theatres held at Welbedacht Wine Estate (Schalk Burger & Sons) during the Wellington Wine Harvest on 15 and 16 March.

Master distiller of the James Sedgwick Distillery, Andy Watts, who has for the past 22 years created many firsts for the South African whisky industry, will personally take you on a journey to discover why these whiskies produced here are impressing international whisky connoisseurs, making them the most talked about whiskies in the world.

The James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington has produced no less than two World’s Best title holders which are included in the four whiskies to be tasted.  Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky was named World’s Best Grain Whisky at the 2013 World Whisky Awards and the Three Ships Premium Select 5 Year Old received the World’s Best Blended Whisky award at the same competition in 2012. These titles were achieved by competing against the very best from Scotland, the USA and Ireland.

Late last year these two whiskies along with the Three Ships Bourbon Cask Finish, were among only seven whiskies from around the world to receive a double gold award at the 2013 New York International Spirits Competition.

Participants of the whisky theatre will also come to understand the various styles of whiskies, the components that make each whisky unique and how whisky is crafted.
