Bid on a slice of Cape history

Plaisir de Merle, a regular participant at the annual Nederburg Auction of fine, rare wines, makes its debut at the second annual edition of the AfrAsia Bank Cape Wine Auction this coming weekend.

Offering an unforgettable five-day luxury stay for eight people at the historic wine estate, this lot guarantees the successful bidder a slice of the Cape’s history, not only providing an elegant, relaxed experience, but also a glimpse into the incredible spirit and energy of the Marais family who began their journey at Plaisir de Merle more than 300 years ago.

Originally founded by French Huguenot Charles Marais, Plaisir de Merle is named after Marais’ hometown of Le Plessis Marly, and produces wines defined by varied terroir, fruit of exceptional quality and richness, and gentle handing in the cellar.

“Plaisir de Merle is a fine wine brand that consistently fetches high prices on the Nederburg Auction”, says Nederburg Auction manager Dalene Steyn. “With such a compelling lot making its debut on the Cape Wine Auction, we have no doubt it will be popular and as such we would like to extend an invitation to the successful bidder to join us at this year’s event in September.”

All proceeds raised at the Cape Wine Auction go to charity. Last year’s event raised approximately R7 million. Online bids can be placed until midday on Friday 13th February: https://gavelandgrand.com/lot/50651-the-manor-house-at-plaisir-de-merle-lot.
