How to store your wine

Storage isn’t an issue for many of us. Most people buy a bottle of wine then drink it within a few days.

But as you start searching out more interesting wines, you may shop online or visit a specialist independent store where buying a case can be the norm.

Few homes have underground cellars, which are perfect for wine storage, so what should you do with your precious bottles?

Not all wines are age worthy. In fact, most are best drunk soon after purchase. It’s only more expensive wines – those usually referred to as fine wines – that benefit from age, although there are exceptions.

Many wines have guidance on how long they can be kept on the back label. For more expensive buys, the shop you get them from will be able to give advice.

If you are planning to keep the wine for more than a year or two and it’s expensive, you probably need to invest in a dedicated wine storage unit or consider sending
it away to a storage facility.
