I stumbled upon this wine at the Franschhoek Summer Wines Festival over the weekend. This truly delightful sauvignon blanc, with its retro label, is produced by Black Elephant Vintners, a new wine company based in Franschhoek with Kevin Swart, a former Johanesburg-based stockbroker, as managing director and Jacques Wentzel, previously of Amistad Wine Company, as winemaker.
Both the Eiffel Tower and the South African flag is visible in the label design because Black Elephant Vintners has relations between RSA and FR. The ‘Y’ element which, when placed on it’s side, represents the South African flag, and when standing upright represents the Eiffel Tower – both iconic symbols of the two countries.
The identity roll-out was done using colours and typography to create a warm traditional feel which can be related to top quality wines of both countries.
