Vintage wine worth £1m stolen in east London raid

Vintage wine worth £1m is being sought by police after about 400 cases were stolen in east London.

Thieves disabled alarms and CCTV before breaking into the warehouse in Bethnal Green on Sunday. The raiders used a forklift truck to fill wooden pallets with the cases, the Metropolitan Police said.

Detectives believe the wine could be sold to private collectors or auction houses. Two men aged 40 and 50 have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Investigating officer Det Con Ash Rossiter said: “The stolen stock is rare and valuable. We would ask anyone with information or who is offered these goods for sale to contact us as soon as possible.”
