Mulderbosch brings pizzas to the winelands

They say a change is as good as a holiday and the newly renovated tasting room of Mulderbosch is sure to put you in the mood for a vacation.

Shortly after the winery was bought over by California-based Terroir Capital last year, owner Charles Bank decided that it was time to zoosh things up a bit. The Tasting Room was designed by Cape Town-based dhk Think Space, the uber-chic architectural firm credited with such stand-out projects as the Cape Town International Convention Centre, trendy Cape Town hotel 15 On Orange and Delaire Graaf Winery and Restaurant, as well as numerous international works.

Out with the old, in with the new! The modern and spacious venue is a far cry from its dull predecessor. For the first time visitor can appreciate the unspoiled views over the vineyards thanks to the big foldaway glass doors that opens up onto the enormous patio. Here visitors can chill out on the comfy couches, engage in a game of boule and nibble on the variety of gourmet style ovenbaked pizzas.

This new addition makes Mulderbosch the only pizza-style wine-farm-based restaurant in South Africa. I find it surprising that none of the other winery restaurant never thought of this, as we all know that nothing pairs better with pizza than a glass of red or white wine. Clever thinking!

The menu caters for everyone’s tastebuds and even offer something truly South African in the form of a Biltong, Peppadew and Rocket pizza. The fresh toppings of the thin, flat-based pizzas are carefully selected to complement the range of Mulderbosch wines.

Apart from the pizzas and Mulderbosch wines the Tasting Room also offers a variety of other drinks, including Italian coffees as well as &Union beer by the bottle.

The renovated Tasting Room represents just one of many recent changes at Mulderbosch. Ex Klein Constantia winemaker, Adam Mason, joined the Mulderbosch team in December 2011. A great asset for the business, that’s for sure!
