Though coffee snobbery is all too common today, the makers at Astonishing Studios aren’t taking the hot beverage too seriously, as their ‘LEGO Coffee Maker’ shows. The machine dispenses Starbucks coffee while being constructed almost completely from commercially available LEGO bricks and electronics.

The ingenious part of the LEGO Coffee Maker is its ability to create hot coffee without melting the plastic bricks. Rather than brewing the coffee within the machine, the LEGO Coffee Maker conducts a three-step process. First, it shoots a tablespoon of instant coffee mix directly into the cup, and then it pours in some room-temperature water. It then lowers a heating coil into the liquid, heating the coffee up in the cup rather than in the LEGO machine.
