Three Boplaas Ports feature among the Top 10 Ports in South Africa in the SA Wine Classification 2018, based on a track-record of top ratings over the past ten years.

They are the Boplaas Cape Tawny NV, Boplaas Cape Vintage and Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve, which achieved leading placings in the SA Wine and SA Cellar Classifications by Top Wine SA. These classifications have been updated annually since 2004 – based on the top ratings and awards from experts in the world’s most respected forums for the assessment of wine quality and interest value where South Africa has a significant presence.

The Classifications take into account ratings and awards presented during the previous 10 years, whereby eligibility for selection requires at least three vintages of a wine to receive a good review by one or more of the top panels during this period.

The Boplaas Cape Tawny, aged for up to 10 years in old barrels, is an iconic South African wine.  Last year it was nominated for a Five Star rating in Platter’s 2018, based on a 94 points rating, and was also named as Top Cape Tawny at the Cappa Challenge 2017.

The Boplaas Cape Vintage 2014 was named Best SA Port at the Terroir Awards last year. It was also nominated for five stars in the Platter’s, as was the Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve 2015, having received a 93 points rating.  It also received an impressive 94 points rating in the Tim Atkin Report, was named Best SA Port in the Top 100 SA Wines competition and a trophy winner at Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2017.

Boplaas produces world-class Cape Ports made from traditional Portuguese cultivars and uses traditional methods like open lagers and old barrels for maturation.

The 2006 Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve Port showed its remarkable longevity at the 2017 Nederburg Auction, where 10 cases (six bottle) featured among the cream of South African wines. The wine is rated to have an ageing potential of at least another 30 years.

The Boplaas Port was last year crowned as SA Champion Port at the SA Young Wine Show for the third successive year.
