Cuban Wine: Close But No Cigar

When most people think of Cuba a number of things might spring to mind – JFK, Castro, the Cuban missile crisis, rum and cigars. Wine is certainly not on the list but there are wines made there and yesterday I tried one – Bodegas San Cristobal SA Tempranillo 1999.

Bodegas San Cristobal is an Italian joint venture with the Cuban government (as are most things in Cuba as, let’s face it, freedom is somewhat lacking on this little Caribbean island) and is named after the original name for Havana that was named in honour of Christopher Columbus in 1519.
