Monday trolley filler: Porcupine Ridge Syrah Viognier 2011

In today’s trying economics times, you might be tempted to bitch about how R50 doesn’t go very far. In some cases you might be right… it’ll barely cover your parking at the Waterfront or a small box of berries from Woolies (seriously,  are there diamonds hiding in those raspberries?!).

Luckily R50 is all you need to calm your frazzled nerves after a long Monday. That’s because what ridiculously yummy Porcupine Ridge Syrah Viognier 2011 sells for at most supermarkets*. It’s the stuff of miracles, I tell you! The wine is made by Franschhoek’s Boekenhoutskloof, which is well known for the popular Chocolate Block. The Porcupine Ridge range is budget-friendly and offers really exceptional value. The Syrah Viognier stuff is damn delicious. It’s a robust, punchy wine (thanks to the Syrah) with lovely berry and pepper flavours.

Crack open a bottle, kick off your shoes and drink to R50 well spent.

*Ok, actually R54.95. But whatever, it’s still a bargain!
