Sanlam Handmade Contemporary FoodWineDesign Fair

If it’s one thing that I’ve learnt from my past experiences when attending Sanlam Handmade Contemporary FoodWineDesign Fair, it is that you need to get there early to avoid the disappointment of your favourite artisanal products being sold out.  This also allows for more time to languidly browse between producers and crafters without feeling rushed in any way.  I attended the Fair on the Sunday and took advantage of the clear, blue, summer skies and sat under the umbrellas in the open air seating area.  There was plenty of available space to hang out with friends and family while nibbling on delicious artisan gourmet offerings while sipping on a chilled glass of wine or a cocktail.

There were no duplication of offerings and each producer had something uniquely delicious on offer which was showcased with their own unique twist and flair.  There was a wide variety of handmade leathers bags and accessories, linen, clothing, shopping bags, furniture and speciality foods and wines on offer. Producers and crafters did a roaring trade and the spacious boutique outdoor market feel assisted in the ease of doing business.

Newcomers, the Delish Sisters (all the way from Ballito) were such a hit that they ran out of their famous brownies on the Saturday.  Their slow cooked succulent lamb wrapped in the softest, fluffiest naan bread with tzatziki and onion marmalade was also a hit amongst the crowd.
Coobs had thee coolest exhibition space with a library like feel (with the mandatory copy of Spud which was a very nice touch).  The fact that they had southern fried chicken, which was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and fried to perfection, on offer didn’t hurt either.

Paul’s Homemade Ice-Cream was in high demand and I sampled the hot cross bun flavour which tasted like Easter morning in a cup.
The Sanlam Handmade Contemporary FoodWineDesign Fair just seems to get better and better every year and I can’t wait to see what new and exciting artisanal wonders will be on offer in 2015.
