Top Cape Town Roasters Launch Sustainable Coffee Pods

Coffee pods have become an environmental scourge – typically ending up in landfill where they can take up to 500 years to break down. According to various reports, the 20bn capsules currently consumed every year are enough to circle the Earth 14 times!

Fortunately, there are a few companies who are trying to make a difference by offering coffee lovers biodegradable and compostable pods.

Capetonians can now enjoy a guilt-free brew thanks to four of the Mother City’s top micro-roasters who joined forces to produce an environmentally friendly alternative.

4WKS pods are uniquely made from sugarcane waste known as “bagasse” and are 100% compostable. They have the same breakdown time as an apple core.

The eco-friendly pods are the result of a collaboration between Deluxe, Rosetta, Terbodore and Naked.

4WKS pods are best enjoyed fresh — meaning your coffee pods are now on your weekly, not monthly, shopping list. They’ll be available at the Oranjezicht market at the V&A Waterfront from this weekend.
