Twitter`s Age Verification System Wants to Keep Kids Away from Booze

Twitter has launched a new age-screening process for alcohol brands on the social network.

If you want to follow brands like Jim Beam or Heineken on Twitter you will receive a direct message directing you to the age verification page. You have 24 hours to supply your age, and in case the age requirements are not met, you will not be able to follow that brand.

“Our hope is that this approach to age-screening will enable alcohol brands to responsibly and safely connect with the right audience on Twitter,” wrote Twitter’s Tarun Jain in a blog post.

Besides the two aforementioned brands, Twitter has also partnered with Bud Light, Knob Creek and Bacardi — you will have to go through the age verification process to follow any of these brands on Twitter.
